ABSTRACT

This chapter offers an introduction to both the field of organizational communication and to the volume. We begin by discussing various efforts to discipline the field of organizational communication and positioning the field as an interdisciplinary area of inquiry that examines the relationship between communication and organizing/organization. Afterward, we summarize the distinctive features of this book and provide an overview of the book’s subsequent chapters. We conclude by discussing the importance of researcher reflexivity and offering reflexive accounts of our positionalities in the field.
