ABSTRACT

Organizational communication scholarship on difference, diversity, and inclusion has been rapidly expanding over the past 20 years. In this chapter, the authors reflect on how they found their way into this line of research, trace the historical trajectory of scholarship in this area, and discuss how emerging theoretical frameworks can enhance our understandings of difference, organizing, and communication. The chapter concludes with reflections by the authors on the practical applications of this research and on how we can all work towards building organizations that invite inclusiveness, openness, and difference in all of its forms.
