ABSTRACT

This chapter consists of discussions of the papers of Jonathan Osbourne; Susan Goldman, Mon-Lin Ko, Cynthia Greenleaf, and Willard Brown; and Carla van Boxtel and Jannet van Drie. Each discussion begins with an outline of the main argument. In contrast to the latter two papers, which focus on empirically founded reasoning processes, Osborne’s perspective results from hermeneutic analyses carried out by cognitive historians of science.
