ABSTRACT
The chapter consists of three parts: first, a historical account of the conflict resolution structures of the Jaintia, then presentation of a number of case studies (showing the potentially dark nature of tribal methods) and a conclusion with a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of both customary and formal methods of resolution.
