ABSTRACT

This paper concerns the seismic behaviour of steel frames braced with plate steel panels. Two-bay multi-storey frames, in which resistance to lateral forces is offered through thin-plate panels bolted to principal framed structures, are examined. Steel plate shear panels both in Fe 360 steel and in low-yield steel are studied, with varying geometrical characteristics. The very thin plates used allow simplified modelling of panels by means of truss elements in two directions. The systems studied show considerable resistance and ductility.
