ABSTRACT

In this study, to accumulate the basic knowledge of dynamic characteristics of semi-rigid connections, both monotonic and cyclic loading tests were conducted using top- and seat-angle type connections. Here, three specimens with different length of web-angle were prepared. Initial connection stiffness and ultimate moment capacity obtained from the experiments were compared with those obtained from the prediction equations formulated by Kishi and Chen. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1) initial connection stiffness obtained from the experimental results may be rationally evaluated by using Kishi-Chen's prediction equation; 2) ultimate moment capacity predicted using Kishi-Chen model was almost the same with the experimental result at 45 mrad relative rotation; and 3) since a pinching phenomenon was observed in cyclic loading tests, this effect should be considered to formulate a prediction model for hysteretic moment-rotation curve.
