ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the TMD and pendulum control systems that have recently become popular for controlling the vibrations of civil engineering structures. Considering a cantilever beam with varying cross-sections along its length, either a TMD or a pendulum is used, in order to improve the structure’s ability to dissipate dynamic energy. The goal is the determination firstly of the sort of the absorb system (TMD or pendulum) and secondly the characteristics of the chosen system which is the ratio of its mass to the beam’s and the constant of the spring for a TMD system, or the hanger’s length for a pendulum one. Some loadings (e.g. earthquake, dynamic air-pressure are applied for the collection of useful results.
