ABSTRACT

Secondary leading tone chords are similar in structure, function, and usage to secondary dominant chords. Secondary leading tone chords are created by omitting the root of the corresponding secondary dominant chord. Sevenths may also be added to the chord to create a secondary leading tone seventh chord. In this case, half-diminished seventh chords are typically used when the chord tonicizes a major triad, and fully-diminished seventh chords are used when the chord tonicizes a minor triad.
