ABSTRACT

Triads are inverted when a chord member other than the root appears as the lowest pitch. The following major triad appears in root position, first inversion, and second inversion. When the third of the chord is the lowest pitch, the triad is in first inversion. When the fifth of the chord is the lowest pitch, the triad is in second inversion.
