ABSTRACT

Jet-mixing method is widely used as a ground improvement technique. In many cases, this method is used to improve the ground in vertical direction. However, when the ground has to be improved horizontally, it is difficult to skillfully discharge the air and surplus sludge and thus the pressure in the ground increases, which might lead to heaving the ground.

By improving the discharge mechanism of air and sludge, using forced slime dischager, authors have carried out effectively the ground improvement in the horizontal direction. This new method called metro jet system (MJS) has been developed, based on the experience gained by carrying out the ground improvement efficiently in the horizontal direction in about 40 field constructions.
