ABSTRACT
The nature of activities that will be crucial to the implementation of performance-sensitive engineering are discussed. Broadly-based research teams will be needed to examine and document quantitatively all aspects of performance as it relates to structural design. Training will be needed at undergraduate and graduate levels of engineering education and through extensive continuing education of practicing engineers and building officials if performance based concepts are to gain acceptance and implementation.
