ABSTRACT
This paper describes the Seismic Design Specifications of Highway Bridges revised in 1996 reflecting the destructive damage in the 1995 Hyogo-ken nanbu earthquake. Seismic performance levels and design methods as well as the seismic design force introduced in the 1996 Design Specifications are described.
