ABSTRACT

The National Rural Water Association (NRWA) is a nonprofit organization established in 1976 for the purpose of providing training and technical assistance for rural water systems in the United States. NRWA, based on the success of the circuit rider program, has been able to expand its training and technical assistance effort to a point at which it now employs more than 250 circuit riders and related professionals through its state associations. The implementation of a five-year business plan and a responsible administrative partner provides a substantial benefit for International Rural Water Association (IRWA). The goal of IRWA was to develop and implement a training and technical assistance program for developing countries based on the NRWA model. The development of community water systems in Honduras, as in many parts of the world, is often accomplished with substantial financial aid of the government or an international agency.
