ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the experience and approach of the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre in capacity building, information sharing and resource centre development. It provides the IRC, an independent nonprofits organization based in The Netherlands that started as a reference centre, global publisher and information clearinghouse for sector information. The IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre is an independent, nonprofits organization based in The Hague, The Netherlands. The mission of IRC is to help people in developing countries to get and use the best water and sanitation services they can afford. The IRC has identified three other areas for further knowledge development: community water resources management, environmental sanitation, and improving the effectiveness and use of existing water supply systems. The world faces a worsening series of local and regional water quantity and quality problems, largely as a result of poor water allocation, water wastage and increasing degradation of water resources.
