ABSTRACT

The Amice film tells the story of the Meuse as the river and its tributaries flow through the river basin. The water travels through very different landscapes. In France, it flows as a small river in a wide valley with often ample floodplains. InWallonia the river is surrounded by the low mountains of the Ardennes. Here, the river receives most of its water from its tributaries the Semois, Sambre, Ourthe, Lesse, and the Vesdre. Past the city of Maastricht, the Meuse is over a length of 50 km the border between the Netherlands and Flanders. Luckily, these days the river is considered to be a shared richness and is called the ‘common’ Meuse. The last large tributary, the Rur, brings the water from the German Eifel hills. In the Netherlands, the river enters the low country and the waters mingle with those of the Rhine. In the wide arms of the Rhine-Meuse estuary the river disappears into the see.
