Morphology and functional aspects of pollen in the Sarcolaenaceae

The extant family Sarcolaenaceae contains 8 genera and ca. 33 species of shrubs and trees now endemic to Madagascar. Records of fossil pollen in tertiary sediments in South Africa indicate a wider distribution in the past.
