ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses operation and maintenance considerations more specifically for air-feed ozone systems in order to give the reader who may be new to ozone an overview of the operation of an ozone system. The ozonized air is sent to the dissolution units where it is distributed within the contactor. The ozone concentration monitor must be reliable and very well maintained. Ozone generators are equipped upstream with a flow meter and a control valve that is activated by the ozone concentration monitor. The consideration of standby capacity is most important at peak ozone production rates. In most instances, standby units need to be available when operating at peak ozone production, particularly in order to meet disinfection requirements. Provision of multiple units also makes economic operation of the ozone production process possible. The ozonized air manifolds and the diffusers must be able to withstand the corrosive conditions.
