ABSTRACT

The Particle Flow Code (PFC) has been used for constitutive modeling in order to investigate the behavior of the Opalinus Clay, an overconsolidated clay stone in northern Switzerland. The modeling included the consolidation and dewatering of a clay-water-system, the mechanical behavior of the clay under uniaxial loading and quasi-static-creep tests. In addition, a constitutive model has been developed and implemented into the continuum code FLAC. The constitutive relations have been calibrated by the modeling of lab tests.
