ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on colorimetry for textile applications to provide the appropriate background information covering the fundamental concept of color science. It presents proper color measuring procedure for textile materials. The chapter also focuses on the major developments in the hardware and software of the color measuring system. It addresses the impact of such developments on the practical applications and highlights the future prospects of the role of color measuring system in the direction of large-scale integration of color production system. The monochromator disperses the incoming radiant energy spectrally and transmits it via a narrow band of wavelengths through the exit slit. The detector system receives the spectral radiant power reflected from the object and the standard in close succession and generates a ratio signal that is transmitted to the computer for analysis and display. The relatively small sample port of the portable type instruments may affect the precision performance in measuring textile samples with enhanced surface texture.
