ABSTRACT

Comparison of two, nearly identical lakes in the remote headwater region of Kejimkujik National Park, Nova Scotia, was undertaken to determine the impacts of the long-range transportation of air pollutants. The two lakes, located in a pristine environment, represent the most sensitive receptor systems in North America. Since the later 1970s, they have been the focus for a multi-agency Canadian Government study. This paper reports a base-line ecological characterization of the lakes.
