ABSTRACT

About two-thirds of the total area of Hungary is agricultural land and about 25% (2297 ha) are affected by soil erosion processes. On hilly areas the effect of soil erosion is very significant causing enormous damages. Erosion hazard on hill landscapes is increased by the fact that a considerable part of the surface is mantled by loess and other unconsolidated sediments. Soil erosion control, agrotechnological, biological and technical measures, is a central task of farming on hillslopes.

This paper offers an overview of soil erosion control measures followed by a case study of the soil erosion processes of a small watershed. Soil loss assessment for different landuse types provides the basis for the design of control measures of each field within the watershed.
