ABSTRACT

One of the main interests in host-parasite interaction has been the role of phytoalexins in plant diseases for about five decades. Reviews by Ingham (1970), Cruickshank et al. (1971), and Kuć (1972) show that the role of phytoalexins in disease resistance is rather diverse depending on host-parasite combinations. However, the roles were found to be more important than generally believed when we conducted precise and careful experiments. Here we describe our results and discuss on the role of phytoalexins in host-parasite specificity in plant diseases.
