With the increasing emphasis on the teaching of critical thinking in the classroom today, history teachers are probably more in need of pedagogies that could help them prepare their students in these areas than ever. One such strategy is the Structured Academic Controversy (SAC) that was devised by David W. Johnson and Roger T. Johnson in the 1980s as a cooperative learning activity that enabled students to discuss academic controversies, historical or otherwise, in the classroom.
