ABSTRACT

Landfill covers are used at Superfund sites to minimize surface water infiltration and to prevent exposure to the waste. In many cases, covers are used in conjunction with other waste treatment technologies, such as slurry walls, ground-water pump-and-treat systems, and in situ treatment.

This bulletin discusses various aspects of landfill covers, their applicability, and limitations on their use, and describes innovative techniques, site requirements, performance data, current status, and sources of further information regarding the technology.
