ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the mining of the chlorides and sulphates of sodium and potassium. Several other salts, including gypsum, anhydrite, limestone, and magnesite, are mined either as structural materials or as sources of metallic elements. The more important of these are treated separately in Chapter 11. As Tables 1.1 and 1.2 indicate, potash and other salts together make a significant contribution, in terms of both value and quantity, to Canadian mineral production.
