ABSTRACT

Sulphide orebodies are a major source of several common metals used in tonnage quantities, including copper, nickel, and especially lead and zinc. They also contain a variety of other metals and metalloids that are generally present in minor proportions and are produced as by-products when it is economically or environmentally advantageous to do so. As Table 5.1 indicates, Canada is a major producer of many of these metals, and one of the world’s major producers of minerals from sulphide ores.
