ABSTRACT

The earthquake input should be a ground motion field for the response analyses of the lifeline systems and some important structures with large-span. The main problems on an earthquake ground field are the studies of the earthquake ground motion at point and the spatial correlation of the motions at different points nearby. An empirical model of simulation of earthquake ground motion field is introduced for earthquake input of seismic performance analysis of lifeline system in this paper. In this model, the distance between spatial points is introduced only as a parameter controlling the uncertainty effects, and the source-to-site distance and its variation are used to reflect the correlation of motions at points. A method of the reliability analysis of the seismic performance of water delivery systems under a scenario earthquake is proposed based on the empirical model of earthquake input. In the method, the soil-pipe interaction and uncertainty of mechanical parameters of pipes are considered. As an application, a case study is shown for an urban water delivery system.
