ABSTRACT

This paper presents a new type of energy dissipation floor increased structural system, which uses the friction bedding set between the lowest increased floor of outer frame structure and the top floor of original building. It also applies energy dissipation dampers between columns of outer frame structure and each lower floor at their connecting points. The structural model of this system and a new Coulomb friction representation are introduced to the nonlinear dynamic analysis for the first time in this paper. Special attention is also paid to the study of several parameters that affect the seismic response reduction rate. At last, an existing engineering project is presented to illustrate the application and delineate the advantages of the method.
