ABSTRACT

Suqian City Gymnasium (SCG) is situated in a region of 9 degree of fortification intensity, 4500 seats, about 13000m2. The principal structure includes base-isolation layer (BIL), reinforced-concrete space frame, and steel spatial grid roof. BIL located between pile caps and the super-structure, mainly consisting of laminated rubber bearings and viscous dampers. By SAP2000N software and a nonlinear space time-history analyzing method, thorough investigations for the base-isolated system have been implemented. Important results are as follows: (1) The horizontal earthquake action upon the super-structure in base-isolated system can be greatly reduced, and the discount rate is small than 0.25; (2) Viscous dampers effectively restrict the BIL displacement meanwhile do not increase the earthquake action; (3) Technical and economic comparison demonstrates that base-isolated SCG possess evident social and economic benefit.
