ABSTRACT
In this paper, the effects of earthquake engineering research in U.S. on the corresponding research and practice in China, the interaction between them and the fruitful outcomes of joint researches are overviewed in some aspects associated with the working fields of the authors. Some tentative subjects such as stochastic characteristics of strong ground motion, performance based seismic design methodologies of building and infrastructures, the applications of the high technology in earthquake engineering and real time health monitoring for essential structures and facilities are conceived of and proposed in this paper.
