ABSTRACT

This article explores the following ideas: (a) a description of the evolving systems approach of Howard E. Gruber, including emphasis on the principles of constructive repetition and network of enterprises; (b) a comparison of Gruber's approach to the approaches of others; and (c) an application of the evolving systems approach to a psychohistorical case study of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), in which the emphasis is to demonstrate how a film approach gives us a different profile of the great Dutch artist from a snapshot approach.
