chapter  16
Inclusive research with people with intellectual disability: recognising the value of social relationships as a process of inclusive research
Pages 12

People with disabilities have repeatedly called for increased inclusion in disability research. The involvement of people with intellectual disability is complex, and has been explored in an emerging research model known as ‘inclusive research’. This chapter outlines an inclusive research project with people with intellectual disability. In particular, we present the model of inclusive research used, critique its capacity to achieve emancipatory and participatory outcomes, and argue for an acknowledgement of the social process as the aspect most valued by the people with intellectual disability involved. It is intended that this will inform others who may wish to engage in inclusive research with people with intellectual disability.
