What should the children know already?

The functions and features of a simple GIS program, e.g.
WithLocal Studies

Depending to an extent on the chosen GIS program, children will need to bring a range of skills to this project. They will need to know that a mouse (or other input device, e.g. a large trackball) can be used to make 'marks' on screen in the form of lines and fills of different colours. They will need to know how to move items around on screen using drag and drop (see Project 1). It would be useful, but not essential, for children to have had some experience of making images using a computer-based painting program, e.g. Microsoft Paint for Windows.
