ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Damage state of buildings and rate of casualties are important indicators of the earthquake. In order to improve the efficiency of post-earthquake emergency support and rescue, capacity spectrum was used to calculate the probability of different building damage states, based on which the corresponding rate of casualties was calculated. In this paper, the study area was located in the city of Dujiangyan, Sichuan. Capacity spectrum and demand spectrum were constructed with the peak ground acceleration, soil type and earthquake-resistant level of buildings. Then probability of building damage was obtained by fragility function. According to the relationship between damage state of buildings and rate of casualties in HAZUS, different level of casualty rate caused by building damage in earthquake was calculated. The results suggest that damage index of Dujiangyan in Wenchuan earthquake is between 2.1694 and 2.3687, which belongs to moderate damage; among the damage indices of buildings with different structures, that with steel structure is the largest, that with reinforced concrete structure the moderate and that with masonry structure the smallest; among the rate of casualties caused by building damage, that caused by low-rise buildings of reinforced concrete structure is the largest, and that caused by high-rise buildings of steel structure the smallest. Capacity spectrum can not only be used to quickly analyze the earthquake damage risk, but also be used for emergency rescue and post-earthquake recovery, and can be used for pre-earthquake prevention planning.
