ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Heavy deficit of water and induced drought disaster is a key problem in arid and semiarid regions of Inner Mongolia, China. The drought status in Xilin Guole grassland for the growing season in 2009 and 2010 were studied by employing the TVDI model driven by MODIS-NDVI and LST. The results indicated that the TVDI model is acceptable for drought monitoring of grassland ecosystem in Xilin Guole region; the drought status in 2009 was more significant than 2010. For monthly variations, the light and medium drought was observed only on October and September in 2010, while medium drought was observed on May, July, October in 2009. The heavy drought reached greater 20% of the study area was also observed on July in 2009.
