ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Using the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis monthly data from 1948 to 2010, the decadal changes of summer water vapor transport and water vapor transport flux divergence (from June to August) in eastern China will be revealed by means of Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis method in this paper. Then, according to water transport anomalous, the disaster situation will be analyzed. The results show that: there was a significant turning point of the water vapor transport appeared in the late 1970s; besides, 70 years ago, summer water vapor transport in eastern China was mainly abnormal in southerly and southwester directions from the South China Sea, through southern China and the Huaihe River basin in North China to the northeast region. However, the directions of water vapor transport after the 1970s was just opposite with the counterpart before the 1970s.
