ABSTRACT
We make several assumptions about a naive subject. These assumptions concern the form of his or her numerical introspections of line-length judgments . They are: (a) Naive subjects can report the ratio of two linelength segments; (b) a subject's judgments will be a power function of line length with an exponent close to one; (c) if a subject does not meet these conditions he is unsuitable for this task.
