chapter  27
Planning for a Negotiation
ByRyan P. Fuller, Linda L. Putnam
Pages 6

Hollywood is a union town, even though it rarely depicts union activities in films and TV programs. Most people can name the actress who played the iconic character of Norma Rae (Sally Fields), but they cannot name the union that represents her craft (i.e., the Actors Guild). For most people, unions reside in the background of organizational practices. Importantly, though, Hollywood unions set the stage for settlements on issues, such as minimum wages, health insurance, working hours, ones that help both veteran employees as well as those who are just starting out.
