ABSTRACT

The treatment of anorexia nervosa has been approached from a variety of therapeutic perspectives (Bemis, 1978; Russell, 1981) ranging from traditional psychoanalytic to purely behavioral. To date, it would appear that no single model has been demonstrated as an effective approach in treating this complex disorder. Therefore, rather than continue the pursuit of “proving” which orientation is best, the current chapter will describe a comprehensive approach that attempts to draw from the most effective aspects that each perspective has to offer for the inpatient treatment of anorexia.
