ABSTRACT
He told his wife that he simply couldn't deal with the scars remaining from his horrible experiences in Vietnam. Married more than 20 years, she'd seen plenty of strange episodes that led her to believe him. One night, he went berserk in an apparent reaction to the sneakers she happened to be wearing. After he calmed down, he told her that his Vietcong captors wore similar sneakers when they woidd come to the bamboo cage in tvhich he ivas kept prisoner. He was regularly beaten and degraded by their urinating on him, helpless to do anything about it. He told her he had been a prisoner for 15 days after a carrier-based F-4 jet fighter on which he was navigator ivas shot down. He said he escaped after strangling a guard, who, incidentally, ivas also wearing the same kind of sneakers.
