ABSTRACT

The central concerns of the event cognition group involved the theoretical and methodological consequences of taking ''events'' as the primitive units of analysis for a science of knowing . As an event approach may necessitate a reformulation of the role and definition of cognition, as well as the empirical methods used in its investigation , the group elected to survey several areas that must be addressed by any comprehensive theory . Our discussions were at best preliminary because it seemed that our time would be spent most wisely reviewing a number of the participants' interests , rather than focusing on only one or two topics .
