ABSTRACT

Until recently, the notion that self-concept is multifaceted has been more implicit than explicit in research on and reviews of self-concept. Of the studies that systematically examined this aspect of self-concept,, most support a multifaceted interpretation of the construct (e.g., Fernandes, 1978; Fernandes, Michael, & Smith, 1978; Fleming & Watts, 1980; Kokenes, 1974; Marsh, Parker, & Smith, 1983; Marsh, Relich, & Smith, 1983; Marsh, Smith, & Barnes, 1983; Michael, Smith, & Michael, 1975; Piers & Harris, 1964; Shavelson & Bolus, 1982; Shepard, 1979; Wylie, 1979).
