Renaissance, which was of fundamental importance to modern mathematics, we must go back not just to Greek mathematics, but to Arabic and Indian mathematics as well.

India boasts one of the most ancient civilizations in the world; its literature includes among its sacred books its most ancient writings. The Vedas (sacred books), and the poems Mahabarata and Rahamajana are at least twenty-five centuries old. But it has not been established with any certainty if Indian mathematics had an autonomous development independent of the Greek.
