ABSTRACT
Darwin considered whether the sex ratio is subject to Natural Selection. After surveying the available statistics and investigating the selective effects of infanticide at some length he concludes by saying that as far as he can see there is no selective advantage attached to a particular sex ratio, and that “I now see that the whole problem is so intricate that it is safer to leave its solution to the future.”
