ABSTRACT
In their efforts to express themselves and to persuade or control others, human beings enjoy a great variety of rhetorical forms. They shout and they whisper. They wave their arms, draw pictures, write elaborate argumentative texts, speak with a studied detachment or in the caring tones of intimacy and love. They imperiously defend their personal perceptions or justify their claims as embedded in a shared public logic and factual order.
