ABSTRACT

The influence of postmodernism on planning theory seems to be increasing (Beauregard 1989; Dear 1986; Milroy 1991). Postmodernism is not a well-defined movement or school of thought; it encompasses a variety of views and it shares premises and approach with many communitarians, feminists and deep ecologists. There may well be no such thing as postmodernist planning theory; it is possible that the assumptions of postmodernism 1 preclude the development of any coherent theory.
