ABSTRACT

As a result of the growth of the Internet and changing patterns in news consumption, the news sector is undergoing significant change (Boczkowski, 2005; OECD, 2010; Pavlik, 2000; Pleijter and Deuze, 2003). The past two decades saw an enormous increase in the quantity of news and information, especially through the launch of many online news services, ranging from news aggregators like Google News to local news sites, blogs, and other user-generated content from citizen journalists and innovative online experiments with investigative journalism. This has resulted in news consumption partly shifting to the Internet, and this is particularly the case with young people.
