A number of years ago the Pongo Teen Writing Project was working in juvenile detention in Seattle in the context of a traumatic grief therapy group. Th e group was led by Dr. Ted Rynearson, (Rynearson, 2006) using his Restorative Retelling model that emphasizes resilience, celebration of the deceased, and (at the appropriate time) death imagery. In spite of the leaders’ best eff orts, the membership of the group was very fl uid, as youth were moved in and out of detention according to the unexpected disposition of their cases.
