ABSTRACT

Cyberbullying is a problem affecting a meaningful proportion of youth as they embrace online communication and interaction. Increasingly, research is being conducted in a number of countries around the world. The problem, however, is that very little coordination exists among researchers involved in these investigations. COST IS0801 has taken great steps toward remedying this concern. Starting in October 2008 and continuing for four years, the COST Action entitled “Cyberbullying: Coping with negative and enhancing positive uses of new technologies, in relationships in educational settings”, served to bring researchers together to share expertise, data, legal analyses, and relevant information about mass media and industry efforts to curtail cyberbullying. Moreover, the Action sought to increase awareness about the nature and extent of cyberbullying with a specific focus on improving the coordination of research activities. Our comments in this chapter serve to synchronize the activities of the COST Action with our own efforts in the United States.
