ABSTRACT
In this chapter we will describe the policy underpinning the introduction of a new sentence for the long-term risk management of serious violent and sexual oenders in Scotland called the order for lifelong restriction. We will explore some of the distinctive features of the sentence and we will then examine emerging practice since its introduction in 2006. We will conclude with some questions and suggestions for future research.
